Abstract

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common type of primary liver cancer and the third leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide.1 Limitations in implementation of early detection may be responsible for the extreme high incidence-to-mortality ratio.2 Whilst sequential treatment optimization with sorafenib followed by regorafenib achieved significant survival benefit, almost all patients within the intermediate and the advanced stage inevitably died of cancer.3 Therefore, novel drugs with better efficacy and less side effects are in urgent demand.
