Abstract

Although public biotechs had seemed on the verge of becoming profitable as a group in 2005, they took a step back from that milestone last year, as losses climbed up to over $3 billion from less than $1 billion in 2005. Operating income for the group also ran into a negative $3.5 billion, quite a slide back down from the slight deficit of $200 million in 2005.
