Abstract

Galanis discusses the concept of "quiet quitting" in the healthcare industry, where employees intentionally do the bare minimum at their work and set strict boundaries between their personal and work life. This phenomenon is seen as a defense mechanism to avoid burnout and achieve a better work-life balance. However, it can also be a threat to organizations as it reduces productivity and passion for work. He conveys that healthcare workers experience high levels of job burnout, dissatisfaction, disengagement, and turnover intention, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many healthcare workers left their jobs during the pandemic, following the global trend of "the great resignation." The term "quiet quitting" gained attention after a viral TikTok video in 2022, and there is now a valid instrument, the Quiet Quitting Scale, to measure this phenomenon. He suggests that future studies should quantify the level of quiet quitting among healthcare workers and identify potential determinants of this phenomenon.
