* Six black employees at Auburn University have threatened to sue the university for employment discrimination. According to a complaint filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the black custodial workers were paid less than white workers despite the fact that they had more work experience. (Opelika-Auburn News, 3-17-10)
* Racist fliers were found in classrooms at Boise State University in Idaho. One black student found a flier placed in front of her desk and she was the only black student in die class. (Idaho Statesman, 12-11-09)
* Racial slurs were found written on the message board of an African-American student at California Lutheran Universityin Thousand Oaks.
Blacks make up 3 percent of the 2,200member undergraduate student body at the university. (Ventura County Star, 3-26-10)
* Racist graffiti targeting several ethnic groups was found in two resident halls at California State Polytechnic University Pomona. The graffiti also used hateful terms targeting the university's gay and lesbian community. (San Bernardino County Sun, 3-22-10)
* Two racial incidents occurred on the campus of California State University, Monterey Bay. A white student, who reportedly was intoxicated, was accused of yelling racial slurs at a black female student who was walking across campus. The next morning a racial slur was written in chalk on a sidewalk. (Salinas Californian, 3-19-10)
* The founder ofBoredAtButier.com has taken the Web site offline after the Web-based bulletin board was flooded with racist postings. The Web site was established for students at Columbia University's Butler Library to post comments anonymously about life at the university. Companion sites were set up for students at other Ivy League institutions. Offensive postings were found only on the Columbia site. But all the Web sites were taken offline until a time when Web administrators could develop a procedure to eliminate offensive postings. (Inside Higher Ed, 12-11-09)
