LOCATED IN Moscow, the Russian State Archive of the Economy (RGAE) is the main central repository for archive materials on the economic affairs of the former USSR after 1917. As the editors of this indispensable guide inform us, it has 1945 collections with a total of some 3.2 million files. Of these, the 1574 institutional collections which were non-restricted by the autumn of 1993 are covered by this guide, representing some 81% of the complete holdings. More than half of these collections have not previously been described in published guides, so this book makes a vast amount of documentation easily identifiable by researchers for the first time.
