With the continuing excavations at Ekron (Tel Miqne) and Ashkelon, several books on the Sea Peoples have appeared recently. Among them are Ed Noort, Die Seevolker in Palastina (Palestina Antiqua 8; Kampen: Kok Pharos, 1994), and Neal Bierling, Giving Goliath His Due: New Archaeological Light on the Philistines (Grand Rapids: Baker, 1992). Margalith has been an active participant in the discussion of the Sea Peoples, with a series of articles in Vetus Testamentum on the legends of Samson and with this short volume, first published in Hebrew in 1988, which compiles some of his earlier studies. His approach is topical, with short, individual treatments of specific gods (Dagon, Baalzebub), the etymological and ethnic aspects of various peoples (Cherethites, Pelethites, Hivites, Gibeonites), and selected biblical narratives (e.g., legends of Samson) that in some way are associated with the Philistines...
