Sira, the UK-based advanced instrumentation and space hardware company, has received a contract to supply a massive CCD camera, which will be used by the European Space Agency (ESA) to monitor and analyse the amount of debris in space. The new contract follows earlier proposals by Sira for the European Space Operations Centre, Darmstadt (ESOC) on complete systems for detecting and measuring space debris using a groundbased telescope.
Dr Gordon Hopkinson, Sira's project leader, says he believes Sira was awarded the contract because of its international reputation in the field of CCDs, its systems design experience and its expertise in detecting and monitoring space debris.
