Abstract

This article is a theoretical essay, aiming to present the prime correlations between two recurrent themes in academic and empiric studies: innovation management and social capital. This essay attempts to illustrate the role of social capital as a facilitator for innovation management, considered a social and rational corporate construct. The available knowledge relating to innovation management remains limited. For that reason, we present a bibliographic review so as to demonstrate the principal academic contributions concerned with this subject. In addition, the steady increase in research regarding social capital is a result of academic interest over the past couple of decades, mainly for its intangible nature and multifactorial composition. An analysis model is proposed; the social capital being a facilitating tool to encompass new management ideas within an organization, thereupon allowing for an approach centered on both themes.
