This book represents a remarkable accomplishment for its editors and authors in that it compiles in one (admittedly daunting, 700-page) volume such a wealth of data, theory, and useful recommendations for scholars of Social Security pensions around the world. The editors have brought together the thinking of dozens of pension researchers from around the world and compiled them in a thoughtful and well-organized text. Whether the reader is a pension economist, a public policy maker involved in pension reform, or merely an interested observer, the extensive factual review of many countries' successes and failures and the practicalities of running a pension scheme are sure to add value.
