Abstract. Background: Domestic violence is an extremely complex phenomenon that affects a person on a long term basis and in all physical, social, economic and psychological plans. The person who is prevented from exercising their fundamental rights and freedoms is a victim of violence. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the consequences of domestic violence against abused women and children in order to obtain social reintegration by providing legal assistance, psychological counseling and social work. Methodology: a qualitative research design was used to conduct semi-structured interviews that focused on the following aspects: forms of domestic violence experienced, psychological implications, knowledge concerning legal aspects, psychological counseling services and social work. Results and/or practice implications : the results of the survey showed the consequences of violence against victims, the need for psychological counseling of victims of domestic violence, as well as the categories of services and institutions to which victims of domestic violence may appeal.

Introduction
Domestic violence is an extremely complex phenomenon, which affects a person on a long-term basis and in all physical, social, emotional, psychological, economic levels - but also his/her children, which places a special responsibility on the shoulders of professionals working in this field to interrupt the cycle of violence and its perpetuation. The intervention quality and the interdisciplinary and interinstitutional cooperation are crucial in removing the victim from the violent relationship and, finally, in making him/her more responsive to taking appropriate decisions about his/her security and future.
A widely accepted definition of domestic violence is the one formulated by Stark and Flitcraft apud Sînzianu (2006, 3): "Domestic violence" is a threat or a challenge to a physical injury that has occurred in the recent past or in the past in the relationship between partners regardless of their legal status or domicile.
Physical or sexual attack may be accompanied by intimidation or verbal abuse; destruction of property belonging to the victim; the isolation of friends, family or other potential sources of support; threats made to other significant persons for the victim, including children; theft; control over money, personal belongings of the victim, food, travel, telephone and other sources of care and protection.
