Is a census really the most we can expect from this democracy?
Today's political science subject is drains, for it is they, according to Sir John Betjeman, that make our nation what it is. Proper drains and democracy.
I have no argument with the notion that a sound, brick-built sewer system is the mark of a civilised state. But in the name of free speech allow me a dig at the hijacking of 'democracy' by those who mistake a two-- bob consultation exercise for the stamp of a free, tolerant and classless society.
