CBAs new breakdown mill supplied by VAI L· equipped with a Dynamic Shape Control backup roll, which, associated with a hot edge spray system and an air bearing Shapemeter roll, enables optimum strip flatness to be achieved.
In December 2003 VAI signed an agreement with Companhia Brasileira de Aluminio (CBA) of Brazil for the supply of a new wide strip cold rolling mill. This high performance aluminium breakdown mill will be the widest and fastest of its type in Latin America.
Companhia Brasileira de Aluminio, CBA was established on 4 July 1955 and is part of the "Vbtorantim Group. It is the second largest Brazilian producer of primary aluminium in the country. The works is located at Aluminio City, 70km southwest of Sao Paulo and is the world's biggest aluminium integrated plant from bauxite transformation to manufacturing of finished products.
The first rolling mill sold by VAI to CBA in 1996 was a roughing foil mill and included the VAI Dynamic Shape Roll technology (DS R®). The excellent performance of this equipment has been a decisive factor in CBA again selecting VAI Cosim and VAI Clecim for the supply of its new breakdown mill.
This new single stand 4-Hi DSR breakdown mill is the key piece of equipment of a new wide product rolling shop.
The mill is based on the latest technology, with high pass line configuration and is integrated with a high capacity stand-alone edge trimming/ centre cutting line through a fully automatic coil circulation system with double row pallet conveyor.
The mill is equipped with the DSR backup roll, which, associated with the hot edge spray system and an air bearing Shapemeter roll (ABS), allows the best flatness to be produced.
Process control using the latest VAI automation systems provides on line control of strip flatness and gauge enabling the production of high quality feed stock coils.
The mill has been manufactured in the European Union and the stand completely shop-assembled before shipment.
Production is scheduled to start in the second half of 2005.
