Strategies for Formulations Development: A Step-by-Step Guide Using JMP®, Ronald D. Snee and Roger W. Hoerl. SAS Institute Inc. Cary, NC, 2016, 294 pp, $49.95, ISBN 978-1-62959-670-9.
his book, written by Dr. Ronald D. Snee and Roger W. Hoerl, is dedicated to a specific area in design and analysis of experiments, namely mixture experiments, or alternatively, formulation experiments as the two authors call it. What makes these kind of experiments different from conventional experiments is that the experimental variables are the proportions of the components that make up the mixture, and thus the proportions must add up to 1 or 100%. The conventional design and modeling approaches need to be modified in order to accommodate this constraint. Although there have been some researchers who have worked on this area, the two authors among them, there are not many books that solely focus on mixture experiments. There is a great demand for an introductory and yet comprehensive book on design and analysis of mixture experiments from the practitioners in pharmaceutical, food, chemical industries alike. This book meets this demand.
This book presents a comprehensive knowledge on how to perform experimental design, analysis, and optimization for formulation development. It begins with an introduction on formulation products, the experiments...
