Josh Kernohan explains how he has been inspired by his involvement in the recent UK-wide review of learning disability nursing
When I read the Strengthening the Commitment (Scottish Government 2012) document on modernising learning disability nursing I was impressed by its potential to bring about meaningful change in the profession.
When I saw that it had been endorsed by each of the four UK governments and some prominent people in the NHS, the universities and the private and independent sectors, I knew I wanted to play a part in its implementation.
I applied to become one of two student representatives on the Strengthening the Commitment UK steering group by completing a 100-word 'expression of interest'. I found the task involved writing both too many and far too few words, and spent a long time staring at a computer screen, wondering how I could make my belief in the document and its power to transform the profession clear.
