The 20 July 1944 assassination attempt on Hitler's life remains one of the most controversial and fascinating Second World War affairs, and consequently many biographies of the anti-Nazi conspirators involved in it were written both in German and in English. Kenneth A.E. Sears has chosen to write yet another biography of a well studied resistance fighter, the anti-Nazi diplomat Adam von Trott zu SoIz. There are already many biographies and collections of primary sources dedicated to Trott, as he was undoubtedly a fascinating figure. In his book, To Strive and Not to Yield, Sears follows the life of Adam von Trott from his childhood, to his remarkable scholarly career as a Rhodes Scholar in Oxford and through his resistance activity during the dark years of the Second World War.
