As a method for learning English, flashcards are not only enjoyable but also effective. That is why, they have been used by language teachers for a while. The reason why English flashcards are used so successfully is that they are a very simple and enjoyable way to memorize vocabulary and basic grammar and are equally effective in helping both children and adults alike. Although flashcards can be used for both children and adults, they have primarily been used for teaching children. Besides, flashcards can replace the feelig of studying with that of playing a game, and when used with an appropriate English course they are extremely good at helping students build a large vocabulary. Children generally find it easier to associate images with words and this is why many of the flashcards we will encounter will feature word related pictures. With the increased popularity of online study, interactive versions of English vocabulary flashcards are common on the internet. Obviously, they do not have the same visual appearance of standard flashcards but perform exactly the same task, adopting similar formats and strategies for learning vocabulary. This study aims to explain the use of flashcards effectively in learning English vocabulary. The importance and effects of using flashcards in learning vocabulary in a foreign language will be discussed in this study. The participants of the study, 11 male and 9 female, were randomly chosen from the sixth class students attending in a Primary School in Konya, Turkey. According to the results of this study, it can be said that using flashcards can be very useful for the students, particularly for the beginners so that they can activate their brain while associating the words with the pictures. In addition, the students can learn new words easily in a short time when compared to other ways of learning vocabulary.
