Litteras ut ad te scriberem nonnulli amici nostri me hortati sunt et quamquam iam aliam epistolam a me Soniaque ante aliquanto accepisti quod opus tamen cum gaudio assumo quia pauca oblectamenta sunt amoeniora quam communicare per litteras; etsi hac amenitas necessario quadam amaritudine temperanda est cum hic te salutans hic etiam tibi valedicam. Omnes propter infatigabiles tuos tot annis labores in aulis huius universitatis gratissimi erga te permanebimus absentiamque iam lamentamur. VI). Otium enimvero tibi nunc restat terras remotas carasque visitandas picturas contemplandas musicam audiendam cogitandum legendum et presertim ad scribendum; an te conferens ad suave amoenumque atque illustratum artis oblectamentum epistolas scribendi? Ut hac oportunitate nova plene fruaris tibi optime volo. VALE.

Dear Professor Sebold,
Upon hearing the news of your retirement, I experienced a whirlwind of thoughts and memories, mostly based on the disturbing question: what will the students of Eighteenth Century Spanish Literature do now? Who will open the doors to this Century in the way that you do? For truly, there is no scholar in this field that can replace you. As you enlightened and enriched us academically, we were awed by your presence. I can never forget the first time I saw you some fifteen years ago, wearing your black cape which flowed in the wind. I immediately knew that you not only taught the subject but you lived it-you are the true "Neoclassic hero", the "Pre-Romantico" extraordinaire. Thank you Dr. Sebold for your professional and personal support throughout the years, from being mentor and a most patient dissertation advisor, to attending my wedding with your lovely wife, and most recently, for evaluating my post-doctoral work for tenure review. I wish you a relaxing yet fruitful retirement and look forward to your advice and scholarly support in the years to come.
