The following is a summary of a proposed recommended practice of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE). The full report presents guidance on appropriate techniques for estimating trips generated by development of all types in any setting.
This report is published as an ITE proposed recommended practice. As such, it is to be considered in its proposed form, but is subject to change after receipt and consideration of comments and suggestions received from those who have reviewed the report. Readers are encouraged to submit their written suggestions for improving this report to Lisa Fontana Tierney, ITE Traffic Engineering Senior Director, at 1627 Eye Street, NW, Suite 600, Washington, DC 20006 USA.
Written suggestions should be received at the above address no later than February28,2015to ensure consideration for incorporation into the final recommended practice report.
Purpose of Trip Generation Handbook
The principal objectives of Trip Generation Handbook, 3rd Edition (or the Handbook) are to provide recommendations for
* proper techniques for estimating trip generation, both person and vehicle, for potential development sites in urban, suburban, and rural settings;
* standardization of trip generation data collection efforts; and
* ethics and objectivity in the use of Trip Generation Manual data.
The guidelines presented in the Handbook represent preferred best practices under most conditions.The guidelines recognize professional judgment may be needed throughout the process of estimating trip generation for a study site.
