Twentieth Century North American Drama contains 834 full-text plays, written from 1889 to 2005, by 124 Canadian and North American playwrights. Alexander Street Press, in collaboration with the University of Chicago, offers this ambitious database, recently updated and in its third release, to fill a unique subject niche in the database market. The ultimate goal is a collection of some 2,000 plays, more than half of which are in copyright and hundreds that were never previously published. Twentieth Century North American Drama will be of interest to a range of audiences, in particular: theatre students, scholars, and buffs, as well as historians and literary scholars. In addition to full-text, the site includes in-depth searching or browsing options on related productions, theatre, theatrical companies and ephemera. The database is very easy and intuitive to use. Semantic indexing provides a controlled vocabulary in over 63 fields, which result in much nuanced search results. Full-text searching is available.
