Abstract Urban color planning will not only excavate historical context to strengthen urban difference and highlight urban individuality, thereby forming urban style and features that are easy to identify and perceive, but integrate natural landscape and control urban color, open space, green space system and architectural elements to crate a splendid visual space. Adhering to the concept of inheriting the historical context and culture, urban color planning of Xuzhou Qty fully taps the cultural potential of the historical and cultural resources, natural landscape resources and local customs and practices and carries out a practical exploration of urban color and urban style and features as well as the heritage and development of local culture through the urban color planning of "one centre, two axes, two belts, three sections", so as to provide a constructive reference for urban color planning of other cities in China.

As early as the 1970s, foreign academic circles proposed studying the city as the carrier of color and regarding urban color planning as an important means to improve the urban environment and show the urban characteristics. However, China's research on urban color planning is still in its infancy, and the existing research documents are mosdy translation of some influential foreign works. Therefore, how to realize the transformation of studying the western theory to establishing the local theory and apply theory to practice, is a problem demanding urgent solution in China's urban color planning at this stage
1 Theoretical research on urban color planning
1.1 Basic concepts
Urban color is not only the external manifestation of urban natural environment and artificial environment but representative characteristic of urban life, which focuses on people's aesthetic perception of urban specific aesthetic objects. "Style" in urban style and features means the humanistic orientation of a city, that is, the generalization of the humanistic system including culture and custom; "features" in urban style and features indicates the carrier of regional culture of a city, that is, the characteristics of urban environment, urban culture and urban life reflected by the natural landscape and artificial landscape, mainly focusing on urban cultural connotations.
