Abstract Shenzhen Special Economic Zone has achieved remarkable progress through the 30-year development The change from the past frontier town to the current megacity makes urban planning practices of Shenzhen City significant for the exploration of other Chinese cities. Combining with significant planning events of Shenzhen Gty, this paper divided its urban, planning history into 3 stages: exploration, transformation and improvement, and particularly introduced its overall planning, urban design, and statutory plan, and finally proposed suggestions for other cities' development on the basis of urban planning history of Shenzhen.

Since the reform and opening up, Shenzhen City has developed from a special economic zone and megacity, from a frontier town with a population below 30,000 to a megacity with a population over 10 million, it created not only the miracle of special economic zone development, but also the miracle in Chinese and even global urban development history. In this sense, Shenzhen is the frontline for the reform and opening up of China, and a typical example of modem China's urban planning. By taking Shenzhen City for example, highlighting and disclosing its development history from a special economic zone to a megacity, enhancing the understanding of urbanization laws of China in the acceleration period, exploring the development history and characteristics of its urban planning, this paper tried to explore the toad for reforming Chinese urban planning, study modem Chinese urban planning theories, and establish urban planning theory system with Chinese characteristics0, so as to provide references for the development of other cities.
1 Stage I: planning of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone in the initial urban construction stage
Traditional Chinese urban planning was founded in the period of planned economy, falling into 2 stages: the overall planning and the detailed planning In the early development period, urban planning of Shenzhen Gty was influenced by Soviet Union-style centralized planning, a complete system was established mainly on the basis of the overall planning and the detailed planning.
