A 67-year-old man snowing early signs of microscopic colitis later developed lymphocytic colitis associated with coeliac disease, while receiving venlafaxine for depression.
The man had a 13-year history of diarrhoea, but since developing early signs of microscopic colitis in 2000, it had been controlled with mesalazine [Pentasa], Colestyramine [Questran] or loperamide [Arestal]. In 2006, after treatment with clomipramine [Anafranil] and paroxetine [Deroxat], he commenced on venlafaxine [Effexor; dosage not stated].
