Abstract

[...] to my knowledge, there is only one randomized, controlled trial that specifically addresses this question with respect to staphylococcal infections related to orthopedic implants.2 Although the results from the per-protocol analysis were in favor of a regimen containing rifampin, and the authors advocate the use of rifampin for the treatment of orthopedic infections, the intention-to-treat analysis showed no significant difference between these regimens (P=0.10). [...] there appears to be no clear superiority of rifampin-containing regimens for the treatment of staphylococcal-related infections associated with orthopedic implants.
