5:00 AM: It was still dark when Kathryn awoke to her roommate's cries. Glancing at her clock, she thought to herself, "Thank goodness, they don't make me get up at 5 AM!"
Kathryn had only lived at "the home" for one week, but she was learning the rules fast. As long as you were a good patient and didn't wet the bed, you were allowed the pleasure of remaining in bed until 6:30 AM Not much of a treat for a woman who has slept until 9 AM for the past 50 years, but better than nothing.
A retired RN, Kathryn had worked the last 50 years on the 3-11 shift and therefore had adjusted to being a night person. In the past she never went to bed before 1:00 AM. But that was the past. Now she is lucky if she can convince die aides to let her stay up until 9:00 PM . So far she has been able to bribe the aides with her box of candy, but the box is now half empty and Christmas was a long way off. Guess she would just have to go with the flow and get used to her new lifestyle.
She could hear the sounds of other patients down the hall trying to appeal to the aides...
