EDUARDO GALEANO'S collection of 330 fictions, all of which are less than a printed page, and some a single paragraph, feel like the slide shows and news items one might read in an online newspaper such as the New York Times or a news blog from the Guardian or the BBC. Today's news often simply inspires a voyeuristic curiosity or mild outrage, though, whereas Galeano's stories make one aware that the work of the writer is to create a world.
