Abstract

Weever fish, some of the most venomous fish existing in the temperate zone, are found in the coastal waters of West Africa and Europe including the Mediterranean Sea. The lesser weever fish inhabits shallow inshore waters where the bottom is flat or sandy and muddy. The greater weever fish lives in deeper, offshore waters and is the species usually responsible for the stings suffered by fishermen and divers.
