This collection of stories merits a longer and more considered review (it appeared just as AWBR was being prepared for publication). Arlene J. Chai is quoted on the back of the book: `Merlinda Bobis writes like an angel. Her characters whisper to you long after they've told their bittersweet tales.' She's right -- but don't imagine sugarplum and tinsel, concentrate on the word `bittersweet'.
