Abstract
This week, the 47 member states of the WHO Regional Office for Africa (WHO AFRO) will nominate a new director to lead the organisation for the next 5 years at the 64th session of the regional committee (Nov 3-7) in Cotonou, Benin. After what many experts believe to be a decade of failed leadership by the incumbent, election of a new Regional Director could be a turning point for the Office, for African health, and for the control of the devastating Ebola outbreak presently raging in west Africa.
