Individuals in middle management positions, even when they hold those positions for many years, rarely receive scholarly historical treatment. With William Stephens: Georgia's Forgotten Founder, Julie Anne Sweet has produced a scholarly biography examining William Stephens, Trustee Georgia's most important, or at least best documented, middle management figure. The book focuses on die years between November 1737, when Stephens arrived in Georgia, and December 1745, when his copious journals end. During most of that time, Stephens occupied the position of on-site secretary of the colony for the Trustees.
