What his life did to mine
Forty-four years ago, Yosef Alfredo Antonio benJohannan, Ph.D., a trained lawyer, engineer, Egyptologist and the most controversial narrator of ancient African history, changed the trajectory of my life.
The year I graduated from college, I went to Spain to tighten my grip on Spanish in preparation for graduate work in Latin American studies. At the time, I was a member of the African Caribbean Mobilization Committee (ACMC), a predominantly college-educated group of young men and women advocating the return of Caribbean students and professionals to their home countries to help build an economically strong, self-sufficient region. By the time I returned to the United States, ACMC had become AMC - the African Mobilization Committee - steeped in the philosophy of Marcus Mosiah Garvey Jr., encouraging Black people to do their part in building up Africa.
