Skip and Lee Winfree have built a thriving business in Anchorage, growing with the state's seafood industry.
"We've grown by leaps and bounds over the last 20 years," said Skip Winfree, who bought. a small cold storage company in 1980, then called 10 and M Lockers, and changed the business direction toward building up the seafood side of the business.
Since then the company, renamed 10th & M Seafoods, has grown with the state's fishing industry, and its future looks good, Winfree said. The Winfrees' son, Rob, and daughter, Sharon, now work in the business.
The company was actually started before World War II, as Kroessing Cold Storage. It specialized in custom game processing and cold storage service and was operating at the present location when Anchorage's park strip, nearby, was a wartime airstrip supporting P-38 fighters.
