When the new $14 million Virginia Hand Callaway Discovery Center has its official grand opening Feb. 21, 2000, it will mark the completion of the largest project in the history of Callaway Gardens, Pine Mountain, Ga.
The new center sits on 50 acres of the 14,000 acres that make up the park, located about one hour's drive southwest of Atlanta. According to Rachel Crumbley, public relations manager, attendance at the park, owned by the nonprofit Ida Cason Callaway Foundation, has remained steady over the past few years at about one million annually.
