The timing was perfect. Toyota lent us the Corolla station wagon just when I was trying to figure how to lug some light furniture in my Chevy Cavalier. With no fold-down rear seat, that would have required a few trips in the Cavalier, but the Corolla wagon made it easy. Open the tailgate, fold down the seat, slide in the tables and floor laS mps, and off we went.
This cargo-carrying capability was the most memorable feature of the 1996 Toyota Corolla five-door DX wagon. Cargo volume is 31.43 ft3, and 64.8 ft3 with the rear seat down. Compare that with 12.7 ft3 for the Corolla sedan aI the same overall length.
Aside from cargo carrying, however, there wasn't all that much particularly noteworthy about the wagon...
