Cotter retires
Bank of Ireland Asset Management has appointed Brian Goggin as chief executive, following the retirement of Willie Cotter. Goggin was manager of the group's wholesale financial services division, and remains chairman of its risk policy committee. Sagitta Asset Management, the independent boutique, has also appointed a new chief executive. Chris Cottrell joins from GAM, where he was group head of clients.
Man of the year
The CEO with the most to celebrate this month is Hendrik du Toit of Investec Asset Management. Du Toit has been voted the KPMG/Cape Times Business Personality of the Year in South Africa. Investec's chief operating officer, Kim McFarland, was also voted the South African Business Woman of the Year.
P&D's demise
The waning influence of the old Phillips & Drew (P&D) at UBS Global Asset Management took another knock in November with the announcement that Crispian Collins is to retire as deputy chairman of the firm next March. Collins joined the then-- P&D as a fund manager in 1969. UBS has managed a thorough cleansing of the P&D old guard in the last couple of years. One former P&D manager to jump ship was John Sargeant.
