UPM-Kymmene is investing over #30m in making its newsprint more suitable for four-colour printing. A new reject refiner line is being installed at the company's Kajaani mill in Finland, which will make stronger pulp, allowing more lightweight paper to be produced.New rollers, automatic log feeding and the addition of more mineral pigments will make paper more suitable for colour printing. Newsprint production will go up by 15,000 tonnes a year.* UPM-Kymmene has joined MAN Roland and Ferag by becoming a partner in Ready, a World Association of Newspapers (WAN) think tank and research centre, which aims to keep newspapers highly competitive by encouraging new technical developments.WAN has 17,000 newspaper members around the world and is a non-profit, non-Governmental organisation which is dedicated to the promotion of Press freedom.
