Mixing retail and residential to create a new walkable community geared toward Brigham Young University student living is the plan for a former retail center in Provo that has been known for the past 40 years as the "Reams Turtle."
Plans call for the old Reams store, which was an ice skating rink before the Reams grocery store bought the building in the late 1960s, to be torn down in early 2005 to make way for the Alpine Village mixed use community.
"Alpine Village will be a great use of the property," said Jason Ream, a partner in the redevelopment of the Reams Turtle. "We're excited to do something unique with that property."
