When Dick Enrico founded St. Louis Park-based 2nd Wind Exercise and Equipment in 1991, fitness vendors called him an embarrassment, unorthodox and a scratch-and-dent retailer. After all, who would even think of buying used exercise equipment when a host of new products were coming to the market? What I kind of money is there in that?
Uh, how about $21.1 million, which is what 2nd Wind earned in total sales in 2000, up from $14.5 million the year before and $10.7 million in 1998. Not bad for an embarrassment.
