LAFAYETTE - After 12 years in the advertising field, Janice Charles decided she wanted to run her own company so she began shopping around for a business.
"I wanted to do my own thing. I found this business for sale on a dotcom site," said Charles, who now owns Rocky Mountain Popcorn Co. in Lafayette.
Working with a broker, she purchased the company and its parent firm, Colorado Snack Foods. "I have a 3-year-old son, and I wanted something flexible so I could dictate my own schedule," she said.
She had spent her earlier career working in account services in advertising, in Dallas, Denver and other cities. "I was mostly in the fast-food business, and it was time for something new," she said.
Charles started looking for a business in June 2000 and purchased the popcorn company at the end...
