Most multimedia travel CD - ROM still promise a lot more than they deliver. The "videos" and slides are often crude, the printing functions are frequently byzantine, and (just like a book) much of the data is obsolete by the time the disc is finished. Pretty screen visuals can obscure the paucity of information, and most discs are much more difficult than advertised to install and use.
There is good news, however, and it comes from DeLorme. Its Map'n'Go disc is comprehensive and flexible, and the company thoughtfully provides a full - size paper atlas whose grids correspond exactly to what appears on the computer screen. Best of all, its North American database includes Canada and Mexico (although the zip code index is U.S. only).
