While many industries have been revolutionized by time-saving office tools such as e-mail and fax machines, other industries are still looking for ways to buy time.
The health-care industry is one of those, said AccentHealth Chief Operating Officer Tom Hicks.
In fact, time is one of the primary reasons that 50,000 doctors across the country invite AccentHealth into their waiting rooms, Hicks said.
"Our research shows that a long waiting time is the second-highest reason that consumers switch doctors. Our service shortens the perceived waiting time," he said.
Using programming produced by CNN, AccentHealth said it broadcasts its Waiting Room Television network to medical waiting room visitors.
"Our network looks a lot like television programming at home because it is produced for consumers," Hicks said.
The programming, narrated by a host, features several two- to four-minute segments about general-interest health topics such as new measles immunizations.
The Waiting Room Television network also includes health-care company advertising, which is how AccentHealth makes money from the venture.
