Solomon Software's chief operating officer, Michael S. Rupe, has taken over the jobs of president and chief executive officer.
Rupe replaces Gary Harpst, who had been CEO since the Findlay, Ohio-based company's founding in 1980. Harpst will remain as chairman of the board of directors and will concentrate on pursuing new technology opportunities.
Rupe joined the company in March 1997 as chief financial officer and was promoted to COO in March 1998. A CPA, he was senior vice president of finance and planning for Formmaker Software of Atlanta before joining Solomon. Formmaker is a privately held document automation software company. Before that, he was executive vice president of finance with the John H. Harland Co., a $600 million company.
Rupe takes over the president's title from Brian Clark, who has become president of the Solomon IV for Windows Group, the company's largest division.
