A firm can interact in many ways.
"Selecting the right partner is as important as selecting the right software. It's critical to have a partner who understands what you do and that can grow with you. We often take a step back in the implementation phase to revisit current policies and procedures. Usually, we're not just changing software, but helping clients change the way they do business," says Robin Pilcher, director with Postlethwaite & Netterville in Baton Rouge, La. Because it is such a big investment, Pilcher indicates it is imperative to ensure clients make the best choice, implement the software efficiently, and get the full benefit of the features. Tony Martell, with Morrison, Brown, Argiz & Farra in Miami, observes, "The single most important part in the process of choosing accounting software is the initial consultation. This is where all of the client's needs and processes are determined to choose the right software and related modules."
Advising, Reselling, Installing
The first step for Postlethwaite & Netterville is a needs assessment."We are careful to strike the right balance between needs and capabilities. Obviously, no one wants to pay for services they'll never use, but we try to avoid limiting our clients by not considering growth in our decision. Once we have an understanding of the requirements, we evaluate the results, and begin researching software that fit the criteria. We then schedule demonstrations, compare the prices of the final candidates, and recommend software to purchase," Pilcher explains.
