Who will provide leadership for the airport industry in the next century? The Airports Council International (ACI) is conducting a survey, in conjunction with Spencer Stuart, a Florida - based aviation consulting firm, to find the answer.
The complete report, Crafting the Airport Leadership Team for the 21st Century, will be presented in September at ACI's annual conference in Geneva. Preliminary results of the report indicate that airport officials, in general, share "consistent views and concerns on airport leadership," according to ACI.
"The idea was that in a changing industry such as ours, you need to know the profile of leaders for airports in the 21st century," said Alexander Strahl, ACI Secretary General in Geneva.
No Shortage of Talent
While it is not likely there will be a shortage of talented people to operate and manage airports, the breed of leadership may come from outside the traditional "airport fraternity," said David Plavin, president of Airports Council International - North America (ACI-NA).
