PageNet launched the nation's first advanced voice-paging service this month in Dallas-Fort Worth and plans to roll out service in 30 major metro areas by the end of the year at localservice prices starting at only $4.95 per month.
The country's only other advanced-paging player is SkyTel, which offers national two-way text messaging and acknowledgement paging. But PageNet and SkyTel will be joined later this year by at least four more advancedpaging services. Some of the new services will offer two-way text messaging rather than voice paging.
PageNet's service uses a 5.5-ounce Motorola pager that works like an answering machine, recording and storing up to three minutes of 20-second voice messages for later playback. Previous generations of voice-paging services blurted out voice messages as they were received.
In the Dallas-Fort Worth area, the pager and service will be sold through PageNet's direct-sales and service offices, Phone Mart stores...
