The AES Laurel Mountain facility in West Virginia set an energy storage record when it surpassed the 400,000-MWh mark of power regulation service for PJM Interconnection LLC, AES Energy Storage LLC said April 11.
The Laurel Mountain installation consists of 98 MW of wind generation and 64 MW of integrated battery-based energy storage, the largest storage project of its kind, according to AES. The facility has operated since October 2011, supplying "critical grid stability services to help maintain the reliability of the power grid," the company said.
