Tension Envelope Corp. is terminating its Memphis manufacturing operation, leaving about 60 employees out of work.
The Kansas City, Mo.-based company is an envelope manufacturer that has operated a plant in Memphis since acquiring a local envelope manufacturer in 1960. The layoffs will begin on Feb. 15 and be fully executed by Feb. 28.
The company's facility sits on 2.4 acres at 3058 Southwall in southeast Memphis. Tension will continue to offer sales, administrative, warehousing and distribution services from Memphis; those services will require the retention of about 15 local employees.
In addition to the Memphis facility, the company is also closing its manufacturing operation in Minnetonka, Minn., an area where it has manufactured envelopes since the 1920s.
