Former Agape World broker Anthony Ciccone was sentenced to seven years in prison Friday for his role in Long Island's largest-ever Ponzi scheme.
Judge Denis Hurley handed down the sentence after Ciccone made a tearful apology in front of about 15 family members and friends at the federal courthouse in Central Islip. Ciccone, who the feds say made nearly $15 million in commissions from selling bogus investments in Agape World, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail fraud in February 2015.
Ciccone, the second broker and third person overall to be sentenced in the Agape World scam, was also ordered to pay more than $179 million in restitution, the same as its ringleader Nicholas Cosmo and broker Jason Keryc, who was sentenced to nine years in February.
