UPPER BURRELL - Alcoa is preparing to begin construction on a data processing center at its Westmoreland County research facility that will serve as the nerve center for the aluminum maker's North American computer operations.
Alcoa said it is consolidating 47 data centers, located throughout the United States and Canada into the new facility. Alcoa's local data center will relocate from Allegheny Center Mall to the new complex.
Plans call for a 50,000-square-foot, two-floor facility to be built at the Alcoa Technical Center, a sprawling research and development complex that opened in 1965 and today employs an estimated 600 people.
