Alloy Engineering, a longtime Bridgeport company, will benefit from a Connecticut Department of Labor-sponsored Customized Job Training program that will begin later this month. This training was custom-designed and funded to meet the workforce training needs of Alloy Engineering through the collaborative efforts of the Bridgeport Economic Resource Center (BERC), Housatonic Community-Technical College (HCTC) and the Department of Labor (DOL).
"If it were not for the efforts of BERC, this training would not have occurred as quickly. I would highly recommend them to any Bridgeport company as a liaison between business and government," said Kris Lorch, president of Alloy Engineering.
"This is exactly what we set out to do when we established the Bridgeport Economic Resource Center at the beginning of (last) year," says Peter Brestovan, chairman of the board of BERC.
BERC is a clearinghouse for business assistance and information in Bridgeport. It was established and has been funded by People's Bank, Fleet Bank, United Illuminating, Southern Connecticut Gas, the Bridgeport Hydraulic Co. and the Bridgeport Regional Business Council, with support from the city and the state. BERC is designed to connect Bridgeport-area businesses with available resources and programs.
As part of business retention, BERC initially met with Lorch after she responded to a survey it sent to Bridgeport manufacturers.
