David Aldrich, chief executive officer of Woburn chip maker Alpha Industries Inc., said his company's combination with a unit of Conexant Inc. could cut as much as two weeks from its production process.
By merging with Conexant's wireless business in a stock-for-stock transaction, the two companies are creating a new business worth $3 billion that represents a combined $600 million in sales in the past year.
The new company's name and stock ticker have yet to be determined.
For California-based Conexant, the deal offered an opportunity to follow through on its previously stated intention to split into three businesses.
